"We took over an existing Fish and Chip Shop four years ago. It was a big move for us as we had no retail experience. Despite having a good turnover, profit was low and so, consequently was moral.

We thought about selling up but found we probably wouldn't get back what we had put in. At this point we signed up Hugh, from The Business Mentor. Only then did we start to realise that we didn't have a business; we just had jobs, which stands for Just Over Broke, which is what we were.

With Hugh's help we are now working "On the Business" and not just "In It!"

We now take the time to test and measure where our new customers are coming from, what our profit margin is and we produce monthly accounts so that we are fully aware of our "Business Score". That is we now know that we are winning.
Hugh has changed our mindset on a range of things and the buzz we get from running our business is fantastic.
